this really reminds me of something Margaret says about Jo in Little Women by Louisa May Alcott... something along the lines of Jo's heart being a chestnut burr, which waits for the frost to open it up, revealing its soft, tender inside. The hands shaped in a heart and the chestnut just really reminded me of that part.
